Comedian Nikki Glaser absolutely nailed her Golden Globes hosting assignment on Monday, delivering endless zingers for the entirety of the awards show.
And it turns out she had even more hilarious gear up her sleeve, with Australian actress Nicole Kidman spared from becoming a truly awkward punchline.
Speaking on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio the following morning, Glaser, 40, read out the monologue jokes that were left on the cutting room floor, as she explained why they didn’t make it to air.
Of Kidman, Glaser had planned to say, “‘The Wild Robot is nominated tonight — and by that I mean Nicole Kidman after two white wines.”
Glaser said she feared the Babygirl star may not have received the joke warmly.
She did manage to poke fun at Kidman’s husband Keith Urban during the broadcast, which triggered a lighthearted laugh from the Aussie duo.
“Thank you to Keith Urban for playing guitar so much around the house that she [Kidman] wants to leave and make 18 movies a year,” Glaser said. “Keep strumming you kooky koala.”
While Glaser bravely took aim at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs during her address, by way of saying the tennis film Challengers was “more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card”, she had another joke about the disgraced music mogul which perhaps wouldn’t have gone down well among the audience.
“‘This is the last time all of you will be the same room together until the Diddy trial’,” was the proposed line.
Glaser explained, “We had another Diddy mention that worked better … and you only get one Diddy mention. You’re also accusing the people in the room of being involved in that, and they might turn on you.”
Another particularly sensitive quip about the Catholic Church, in regards to the religious film Conclave, was also deemed unnecessary.
“‘I loved Conclave. It’s about the choosing a new pope. It was heartwarming. It will touch you so much that the church will have to move it to another theatre. Hot tip: You don’t need ID to get into the Conclave afterparty,’” was the joke.
Revealing why she didn’t say it, Glaser said, “We didn’t do those because they were Catholic Church pedophile jokes — we’ve all heard them, we don’t need more of that.”
And yet another one which might have been hard to swallow referenced Adolf Hitler.
During the awards, Glaser made a joke about The Brutalist star (and 2025 Golden Globe winner) Adrien Brody, referring to him as a “two-time Holocaust survivor”, referencing his latest role and his performance in the 2002 film The Pianist.
But she stopped short of delivering the second part of the bit, “If Adrien Brody could go back in time, he would thank baby Hitler for his career.”
“I loved that one such much,” Glaser added on SiriusXM. “But my assistant is Gen Z and she was like, ‘I don’t get it.’ We’re going to lose a whole generation on that joke, and then I’ve said ‘Hitler’ for nothing.”
