The royal family’s former “fab four” have led tributes to the “strength and resilience” of Australians in moving posts shared to Instagram for Australia Day.
Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge posted a touching message hailing the communities affected by the devastating bushfires.
Their Australia Day post was accompanied by a cute photograph of Catherine patting a koala during their 2014 visit to Sydney’s Taronga Zoo with son Prince George.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave their own Australia Day shout-out to “the generosity of the community Down Under” on their Sussex Royal Instagram account.
The pair shared images of a selection of stories about global charitable acts in the wake of the bushfires from the Good News movement site.
Stories shared by Harry and Meghan included six-year-old Massachusetts boy Owen Colley who made grey clay koalas to raise funds for NSW group Wildlife Rescue south coast.
They also praised comedian Celeste Barber’s epic fundraising drive for volunteer firefighters, which has so far amassed a whopping $52 million.
The Queen also paid tribute to the “strength and resilience of the Australian people” in an Instagram post that included images from Her Majesty’s tour of Australia in 2011.
Images included the Queen with then Queensland premier Anna Bligh at Brisbane’s South Bank and a meeting with SES volunteers.
The Australia Day messages come after it emerged that the Queen has given Prince William a new title in the wake of the Megxit saga, which resulted in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropping their HRH titles.
Her Majesty has appointed William to be Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for 2020, where he will act as the monarch’s representative.
The role has been held by several other key royals, including Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
It is the latest in a series of new responsibilities Prince William has taken on as his role as heir to the throne expands.
Last week, Prince William hosted his first solo reception at Buckingham Palace, a dinner for African leaders, which Prince Harry missed as he instead caught a flight to Canada to be reunited with Meghan and baby Archie.
