Residents of a troubled Gold Coast island community have lost phone and internet services for the second time in just five weeks.

The service outage at Couran Cove Island Resort, South Stradbroke Island, started on Saturday and residents were still without as of Monday morning.

The resort has a Telstra tower.

A spokesman for the telco giant said a “power issue” affecting services was fixed later on Monday morning.

“We’re sorry for any stress this caused over the weekend and we’re continuing to investigate what caused the issue,” he said.

Fuming residents said the outage was potentially “putting lives at risk”.

“Let’s pray that there are no emergencies while people are without communication,” one woman wrote on social media.

Phone and internet services were also cut to the resort last month, but were quickly restored.

It comes after state health and environmental officials raced to Couran Cove after a sewage overflow occurred last week.

Staff from the Gold Coast Public Health Unit and Department of Environment and Science (DES) officers visited the island on Tuesday after the overflow was reported.

The incident was the latest blow for the embattled resort, which had power, gas and water services cut in February amid a bitter body corporate dispute.

Their sewerage system was shut off last month.
