WITH fees of more than $20,000 a year, some Gold Coast parents are spending eye-watering amounts to put their children through high school.
But most private schools don’t cost anywhere near as much, and families involved are getting a lot of bang for their buck – the children attending these prestigious schools enjoy some of the best facilities in the country.
These are some of the Gold Coast’s most impressive private schools.
10. RIVERMOUNT COLLEGE, YATALA
Senior fees: $7,740
Despite only charging $7,740 for seniors, Rivermount College, located in a tranquil country setting, boasts impressive facilities on its 79-acre campus including a large library, multipurpose community centre and a 25-metre swimming pool.
9. KING’S CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, REEDY CREEK
Senior fees: $8,668
Founded in 1980, the King’s Christian College Reedy Creek campus has developed significantly over the years, and now includes an impressive auditorium and amphitheatre, an Industrial Design and Technology Centre and even a school clinic staffed by registered nurses. The College also operates a fleet of buses to bring children to the school from areas throughout the Gold Coast.
8. ST ANDREW’S LUTHERAN COLLEGE, TALLEBUDGERA
Senior fees: $9,200
With views of the Tallebudgera Valley, St Andrew’s provides a peaceful and picturesque learning environment for its students. It also provides the best of modern facilities, with a new Centre for Creative Industries currently under construction. The impressive centre will include facilities to help students learn about a wide range of topics including Visual Art, Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, Drones and Film, Television and New Media.
7. ALL SAINTS ANGLICAN SCHOOL, MERRIMAC
Senior fees: $10,030
The 40-hectare All Saints Anglican School campus includes specialist facilities for the teaching of science with Technology, Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Health and Physical Education. Sports facilities include multiple courts and playing fields, a gym, two swimming pools and even golf practice facilities.
6. TRINITY LUTHERAN COLLEGE, ASHMORE
Senior fees: $10,382
Trinity Lutheran College has being engaged in a major building program to modernise learning spaces across its campuses. Included in the projects are state-of-the-art contemporary classrooms, an 180-seat auditorium with 5mx3.5m HD LED screen for cohort learning and breakout spaces for learning, a social pantry, a Wellbeing Centre, a cafeteria, an innovative hub and technology lab.
5. EMMANUEL COLLEGE, CARRARA
Senior fees: $11,424
The Emmanuel College campus includes a stunning 460-seat theatre, the vast Graham Leo Library, a specialist computer centre, a swimming pool complex and an impressive sports centre.
4. A.B. PATERSON COLLEGE, ARUNDEL
Senior fees: $12,796.20
A.B. Paterson College opened in January 1991 and in just 30 years has forged a reputation as one of the Gold Coast’s leading private schools. Among the impressive facilities, the college’s Winton Centre, completed in June 2019, includes a library, flexible learning spaces, 160-seat multipurpose lecture theatre and a cafe and film studio.
3. SOMERSET COLLEGE, MUDGEERABA
Senior fees: $18,368
Included in the remarkable Somerset College campus is a massive sports precinct featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool, running track and two storey fitness centre. Students also have the benefit of the 300-seat Suzanne Roberts Centre for Performing Arts, a Design Centre, Knowledge and Information Precinct and the school’s Great Hall.
2. ST. HILDA’ SCHOOL, SOUTHPORT
Senior fees: $20,696
Founded in 1912, St Hilda’s School’s facilities include drama, visual art and music centres, outdoor tennis and netball courts, two gyms and a heated swimming pool.
St Hilda’s has a sizeable theatre and an impressive library among a long list of other drawcards for parents and their children.
1. THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL
Senior fees: $24,438
The Southport School (TSS) is the most exclusive boys educational institutions on the Gold Coast – with fees to match.
Impressive facilities at the Anglican day and boarding boy’s school include two heated pools, an indoor gym, nine playing fields, a climbing wall, seven tennis courts and a specialised performing arts building.
TSS also boasts a drama studio, art gallery and rowing and sailing facilities among the usual educational facilities.
