2025 NAPLAN results show Far North Queensland’s best school is in Cairns
Fresh data reporting the performance of every school across multiple classroom disciplines has revealed the Far North’s best educator in 2025. EVERY SCHOOL RANKED
Fresh nationwide data reporting the performance of every school across multiple classroom disciplines has revealed the Far North’s best educator in 2025.
Trinity Anglican School at White Rock was the highest performer among the region’s secondary schools with an average score of 614.2 across Year 9 reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy.
The Far North’s highest scoring primary educator was Mother of Good Counsel School at Cairns North, where the Year 5 average was 521.6 across the five assessed areas.
The rankings were collated with independent data from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority which released NAPLAN results for every school in the country on Wednesday.
TAS principal Paul Sjogren said the school’s favourable results didn’t come from “teaching tests,” rather from “foundations built over many years.”
“At TAS, we focus on explicit instruction, targeted support, and the belief that students thrive when they feel known, valued and challenged,” he said.
“Our culture of ‘inspiring the wurious’ underpins everything we do. We prioritise evidence-based teaching, and genuine relationships between staff and students.
“I am always extremely proud of our teachers and students. At TAS, we see wonderful things happening in our classrooms every day.”
While Trinity Anglican School, ranked number one in 2024, has consistently been a top performer in the region for a number of years, the Far North’s next best secondary education provider was Cairns’ St Monica’s College which scored an average of 596.4.
The girls-only high school also scored “above average” in the four of the five assessment areas, in a rating system which compared its numbers to “students with similar background.”
TAS scored an above average rating in grammar, and was “close to” average in the four other areas.
Principal of the region’s top primary school Katherine Boot of Mother of Good Counsel said there was a “shared understanding that education is a joint responsibility.”
“Our families are very supportive and work closely with us,” she said.
Ms Boot said a shared vision and commitment to continuous improvement for all students was a key feature of the school’s values that she believed contributed to the results.
Among primary educators, St Gerard Majella Primary School at Woree was ranked second with an average Year 5 score of 512.6.
In the Far North, there were two primary schools that scored either above, or well above average in the five assessment categories: Whitfield State School and Parramatta State School.
