In one of the biggest celebrations of your child’s first educational milestone, the Gold Coast Bulletin has kicked off its sixth annual My First Year project today.
From brilliant smiles to cheeky funny faces, the Bulletin has captured the memory of your child’s first steps into primary school life.
In addition to the online gallery – parents, schools and teaching staff can look forwards to the special liftout that will be published March 22 in the Gold Coast Bulletin’s print edition.
“Starting school is a significant milestone in a child’s life,” Education Minister Grace Grace told The Bulletin.
“Prep gives students a chance to immerse themselves in an energetic and positive classroom environment and learn key skills such as reading.
“Our passionate prep teachers give students opportunities to express themselves and develop a positive sense of self.”
Coomera Anglican College principal Patrick Innes-Hill said that teachers and parents have as much to learn from their prep kids as they do at school.
“Preps are the wisest people in the school,” he said.
“If we don’t listen to them, we’re in trouble – and even if we don’t, they’ll just shout louder anyways.
“There’s an authenticity and a spontaneity about prep students – some of the most precious moments I’ve had were with prep students.”
Ms Grace noted that for many kids while entering prep could be daunting, it presented a lifelong opportunity for many kids.
“Starting school can be daunting, but it is also an exciting time and I encourage all preppies to make friends, have fun and try their best.”
