ONE of the Gold Coast’s largest universities has committed to spending more than a billion dollars on infrastructure in the next decade.
Griffith University today has unveiled its new future strategy in the lead up to its 50-year anniversary in 2025.
The strategy, dubbed ‘Creating a Future for All’, is the culmination of nine months of extensive ongoing consultation with staff and key stakeholders including industry partners, government, community, students and alumni.
By 2029 the university hopes to invest $1 billion in infrastructure across Griffith’s campuses to secure the university’s footprint in Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
The spend will include:
- a major industry-oriented research facility at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct;
- more than $350m will also be spent on digital infrastructure throughout each campus;
- a substantial new development in the Brisbane CBD;
- new buildings for sciences and social sciences at Nathan and welcoming of key partners on the Logan campus.

Griffith University Vice Chancellor and President Professor Carolyn Evans said the Gold Coast spend would help create jobs and attract business from “far and wide”.
“The Gold Coast has already witnessed enormous growth since 1991 and we remain invested in seeing the precinct thrive,” Prof Evans said.
The university would also focus on expanding student learning outside of lectures and tutorials through a number of initiatives, she said.
“A traditional learning experience is not enough, moving forward,” Professor Evans said.
THE GOLD COAST PROFESSOR THAT CAN PREDICT THE FUTURE
“We plan for all our students to embrace opportunities and set them on their career path
equipped with a 21st-century skill set.
“This strategy will ensure Griffith students are more prepared for the workplace of the future
with the confidence and ability to adapt to whatever challenges arise.”

Griffith will also commit to a major research program ‘Griffith Beacons’ which will aim to tackle complex societal problems.
“Our objective is to ensure the future brings benefits to as many people as possible
providing positive outcomes – social, economic, health and cultural – for the people of
Queensland, Australia and the world,” Professor Evans said.
By 2025, Griffith aims to be one of Australia’s leading universities ranked in the top 200
globally with 10 disciplines in the top 100.
Established in 1975, Griffith University has approximately 50,000 students and is located at
five physical campuses: Nathan, Gold Coast, South Bank, Logan and Mt Gravatt.
