Coast school alerted to new virus case
Parents at a popular Gold Coast school have been alerted to a new case of coronavirus within their community.

A PARENT of two Gold Coast schoolchildren has been confirmed as the region’s latest case of coronavirus, as the outbreak continues to spread across the city.
In a letter sent to the Pimpama State School community yesterday afternoon, parents were told that the mother has been tested positive for COVID-19.

The family has immediately self-quarantined and it is not believed that the parents came into contact with other staff or students.
“Therefore we need take no further action at this stage,” the letter from the Principal Marius Marx read.
It is understood both children have tested negative for the virus.
“I wanted to share this information as a reminder to us all that we are not removed from this significant public health situation and to use this notification as a reminder that we all need to redouble our efforts regarding hygiene and social distancing,” Mr Marx said.

As an added precaution, an additional cleaner has been assigned to the school to clean high touch points on the campus.
“I have been liaising with the Department of Education on this matter and we will continue to take the advice from Queensland Health and adjust our operations if we are advised we need to do so,” he said.
“I wanted to make this information available to all families as soon as possible so that you can continue to be alert to your own and your child’s health.”
