And now Miley Cyrus has launched a savage take-down of reality star Brody Jenner, while Liam Hemsworth is extending his trip back home to Australia where he’s staying with brother Chris to recover from the break-up.
The Sun published new photos of a clearly downcast Hemsworth in a cafe in Byron Bay, where he said to a reporter: “You don’t understand what it’s like. I don’t want to talk about it mate.”
Just hours after his break-up became public, Cyrus, 26, was photographed kissing US reality star Kaitlynn Carter, 30, on a girls’ getaway to Italy’s Lake Como. Carter split with Brody Jenner, the son of Olympian Caitlin Jenner, last week.
Jenner has not been shy about commenting on Cyrus’s steamy Instagram posts in the aftermath of her break-up with Liam Hemsworth.
Jenner took to Instagram with a photo of himself on a Malibu clifftop, the caption reading: “Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.”
His friend, Brandon Thomas Lee, the son of Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, wrote on the photo: “Let’s round this scandal out and post a pic of us making out.”
Replying to Lee, Jenner wrote: “Watch out! Pics of Liam and I holding hands on the beach coming soon.”
Cyrus, who is currently on holiday with Carter and their friends in Italy, bit back: “@brodyjenner go take a nap in your truck and cool off #HotGirlSummer.”
The latest development came as pictures emerged showing a downcast Liam Hemsworth in the build-up to his split from the singer after just seven months of marriage.
The Aussie actor, 29, was photographed on June 24 while grocery shopping in Malibu with his parents wearing jeans and a hoodie without his wedding ring.
Cyrus was only days from performing at the Glastonbury Festival in England — where she ranted on stage “I’m f**ing sick of men” while performing Wrecking Ball onstage.
The newlywed pair have been rarely seen together ever since, while Hemsworth has been seen numerous times without his ring.
A representative said: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.
“Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Last week it was revealed that Liam has been staying in Byron Bay with his older brother Chris, without Miley, sharing images of early morning sunrises with his 13 million Instagram followers.
A recent post shared by both brothers featured Chris hard at work doing biceps curls before revealing a shirtless Liam, looked noticeably leaner and more muscular than usual.
In her first social media post after confirmation of the breakup, Cyrus said “change is inevitable”.
“My dad always told me “ Nature never hurries but it is always on time” … it fills my heart with peace and hope KNOWING that is true. I was taught to respect the planet and its process and I am committed to doing the same with my own.”
The New York Post reports that news of the split came just hours after Cyrus posted a photo without her wedding ring while vacationing in Italy. Cyrus was also snapped by the pool at Lake Como kissing reality star Kaitlynn Carter, who recently split from Brody Jenner.
Cyrus and Carter were pictured cuddling and kissing as they flaunted their toned bikini bodies at the Il Sereno hotel, alongside Cyrus’s sister, Brandi.
Cyrus and Hemsworth married at the end of December in a small wedding at Cyrus’ Nashville home.
A source told E! News that the couple had been struggling for a while, but distance and different career priorities ultimately led them to “drift apart.”
“They have been trying to make it work for months now but haven’t felt they were connecting on the level they were feeling when they got married last year,” E!’s source said. “It’s been a rough year.”
The two have been “spending a lot of time apart,” E!’ s source added, and that was likely to continue as Cyrus’ music career is ramping up.
It wasn’t ugly in the end, the source said. “Miley and Liam have still been communicating and it wasn’t a messy split but they have decided they are at different points in their lives currently.”

JANUARY 2011: The last episode of Cyrus’ Hannah Montana goes to air and Cyrus says farewell to the Disney Channel. Hemsworth begins production on the first Hunger Games movie in which he plays Gale Hawthorne. Cyrus and Hemsworth make a few red-carpet appearances together during this time.

MARCH 26, 2012: As rumours swirl that the pair have become engaged, Cyrus tweets: “I’m not engaged. I’ve worn this same ring on this finger since November! It’s a topaz people!” The couple now live together at Cyrus’s Toluca Lake house.

MAY 31, 2012: Hemsworth officially proposes to Cyrus with a 3.5-karat engagement ring. “I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,” Cyrus, 19, said at the time. Hemsworth was 22. They spent the rest of the year defending their young engagement.
APRIL 2013: Reports emerge that the couple have postponed their wedding, but are still living together. A source is quoted as saying Cyrus is “crazy about him” but they want to “figure out their problems” before they get married.
SEPTEMBER 2013: Representatives for Cyrus and Hemsworth confirm that they have called off the engagement. Sources tell E! it was “Miley’s decision, after coming to grips with Liam being what she believed was less than faithful to her”. OCTOBER 2016: Cyrus tells Variety she is pansexual and single. “Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, ‘Oh — that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not.’” In the same month, she tells Ellen DeGeneres that wearing an engagement ring is not really her style:

FEBRUARY 2018: Cyrus and Hemsworth attend events in the lead up to the Oscars.
NOVEMBER 2018: The home Cyrus shared with Hemsworth is destroyed in California’s wildfires. She was out of town, while Liam was home and managed to escape with all their pets — seven dogs, two pigs, two miniature horses. Miley told Howard Stern, “He got a lot of action for saving the animals.” On her birthday later in the month, Hemsworth wrote on Instagram: “Happy birthday to my sweet girl. You’re more precious than ever. So thankful to have you in my life.”
