Cyclist critically injured after bike and car collide in Tallebudgera

A teen driver has handed himself into a police after he allegedly hit a cyclist and left him fighting for life on the Gold Coast.

A teenage driver has handed himself into police after a cyclist was left on the road fighting for life on the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Dungogie Dr and Tallebudgera Connection Rd in Tallebudgera about 6am on Tuesday after a motorist found a 68-year-old man unconscious.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman allege the victim had been hit by a car, which did not remain at the scene.

Police later confirmed an 18-year-old man attended a Palm Beach police station and voluntarily handed himself in about 8am.

He has since been arrested and police have seized a white Toyota dual cab ute from Worongary.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the cyclist had suffered life-threatening internal and head injuries.

Paramedics assessed him at the scene before transporting him to Gold Coast University hospital in a critical condition.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators attended the scene and will continue to probe the cause of the collision.

Tallebudgera Connection Rd remained closed in both directions for a number of hours with commuters experienced long delays however was reopened by 10am.
