Covid states speed towards vaccination targets

Australians are desperate to get interstate after being stuck in lockdown or stuck in their home states due to border closures during the Delta outbreak.

Now, Jetstar has launched a new sale with more than half a million domestic flights for 22,000 seats going for just $22.

From noon Tuesday, the sale will start across all Jetstar’s 59 domestic routes, including Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Cairns, Sydney to Uluru, Hobart to Brisbane and Adelaide to the Sunshine Coast for travel in 2022.

Travel must be made from late October to the end of December 2021, mid-January to mid-April 2022 and late April to late June 2022.

Club Jetstar members have had early access from 8am AEST Tuesday to the sale which ends at 11.59pm AEST Saturday October 2 2021, or until sold out.

It comes as new data from Booking.com’s Back to Travel report shows 61 per cent of Aussies say travel is more important to them now than it was before the pandemic.

Two-thirds (67 per cent) of travellers are now willing to accept only being able to travel if they could prove they have been vaccinated.

A further 69 per cent would accept having to wear a face mask when travelling.

And 64 per cent would back a ‘no mask no travel’ ban (unless they had an exemption).

The travel website has also revealed where Aussies want to go first in late October as we reach double dose vaccine targets to reopen.

Searches for dates during the month have peaked for Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania with those states still able to travel for school holidays and sporting events creating a surge in demand.

With Prime Minister Scott Morrison promising Australians will be able to travel at Christmas, international destinations are now also back on search lists.

Booking.com Area Manager for Australia, Melissa Ellison, said the data shows our exploratory appetite and desire to get back to travel as soon as possible is still strong.

“We’re expecting a very busy travel period over Christmas and NYE,” she said.

“It’s reassuring to see that after a year of unpredictable events, from outbreaks to earthquakes, Aussies have high hopes to return to not just domestic but international travel soon too.”

It comes after a list of possible travel bubbles were announced.

Recent flight searches on Expedia.com.au for international destinations rose by almost 20 per cent in the week following the announcement from Qantas about new flights, compared to the week prior.
