‘The People’s Revolution’ blockade forms outside of anti-mandate venue Noego Coffee Company

A northern Gold Coast cafe has shut for several weeks after anti-mandate protesters formed a blockade against police, who they say were going to fine the operator for his inclusive service policy.

A northern Gold Coast cafe has closed after anti-mandate protesters blockaded the venue in support of its inclusive policy.

The People’s Revolution organisers said between 250-300 people gathered at Noego Coffee Company in Ormeau, which the Bulletin understands has been flouting Queensland’s vaccination mandates.

The group of people outside the cafe said they were protecting the business from being shut down by police, after the business owner Dan Salter made it public he would serve anyone regardless of their vaccination status.

Noego Coffee Company posted a notice on its Facebook page on Thursday afternoon thanking supporters.

“We have run out of stock so we will be closed from today until the 9th of January, back on the 10th,” the post read.

The action was organised by a group called The People’s Revolution with ‘Guardians’, emblazoned with custom group t-shirts and earpieces moving about the event.

Group member Triccy Triddy said they were there to show support for the business.

“This cafe has remained open, they’ve kept serving vaccinated people, unvaccinated people and black people and white people,” he said.

“(Police are) trying to shut them down, they came yesterday and issued them with a heavy fine.

“They said ‘if you keep serving unvaccinated people, we’re going to come today and shut you down’.”

Blockade-goers were seen chanting and holding signs while Bob Marley songs and guitars played in the background.

In a video posted on the business Facebook page on Wednesday, director Dan Salter said he had been fined after police attended the venue.

Mr Salter described the encounter as “quite awkward” and “incredibly uncomfortable”.

“(Police asked) whether I would comply, to which I said ‘no’,” he said.

”They have stated that they will be back to force closure and I said ‘I’m prepared for that’.

”So we’ll see what happens.”
