THE Star Gold Coast has faced a flood of holiday-makers cancelling room bookings during the Greater Brisbane lockdown – and is now offering Bulletin readers discounts to fill the gap.
Chief operating officer Jess Mellor said The Darling and The Star Grand were almost booked out for the Easter long weekend before the shock lockdown, but were only at 56 per cent occupancy by the end of Wednesday.
Bulletin readers can use the code 'Easter' when booking online to score varying discounts on rooms over the Easter long weekend, which Ms Mellor described as well under the usual rate.
The offer will only be available to the first 50 people who take advantage and there is a minimum two-night stay.
“We were pretty much full but lost 1000 room nights since Monday. That was a big blow,” Ms Mellor said.
“If GC Bulletin readers visit www.star.com.au/goldcoast from 4pm today and enter 'Easter' into the special code field you will access the best room rates available for this weekend - better than anything you will find online.
"(The) offer is open for 24 hours and applies to rooms on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. This is an exclusive offer for GC Bulletin readers and only for new bookings.
“There’s lots of offers available on our website, but if they have the code they’ll get a discount off each one of those.”
Ms Mellor said there has been some renewed interest from holiday-makers after the State Government revealed the lockdown would end at midday Thursday.
“But we’re the biggest hotel on the Gold Coast, so we have lots of rooms to fill,” she said.
“Obviously we’re very grateful the (COVID-19) situation appears to have been quite well contained, because what people are looking for is certainty and to give them confidence they can book with us and travel to the Gold Coast as a destination” she said.
“We’re hopeful for as quick a recovery as possible, so hopefully the local Queensland community can help us achieve that as quickly as possible.”
Ms Mellor also revealed there’s dozens of bookings available at The Star’s restaurants like Kiyomi, which she said often have considerable waitlists.
