FOUR people have been fined and taken to hotel quarantine after a yacht arrived on the Gold Coast from a Sydney Covid-19 hot spot.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said police helped Queensland Marine Safety officers escort four people to hotel quarantine after the 34m yacht Dreamtime docked at Southport on July 7.
The crew members from Sydney’s Northern Beaches had allegedly falsified their border declaration pass.
The superyacht owner, his personal assistant, the captain and an engineer were fined more than $4000 each.
Maritime Safety Queensland General Manager Angus Mitchell told Nine News the occupants of the boat gave “false and misleading information”.
“The crew underwent urgent COVID-19 testing and thankfully returned negative results,” he said.

Gold Coast Acting Chief Superintendent Rhys Wildman said the group’s behaviour was extremely disappointing and had placed the health of Queenslanders at risk.
“The majority of people do the right thing, but the ones who don’t are putting the Gold Coast community at risk,” he said.
“It’s disappointing and it’s another reminder for people entering Queensland that they must follow the directives of the Chief Health Officer in Queensland.”
It comes after NSW recorded 112 new Covid-19 cases overnight, while Queensland recorded no new local cases.
