New virus case confirmed on Gold Coast

A woman has been confirmed to be the state’s latest coronavirus case following testing at a Gold Coast hospital.

A WOMAN has been diagnosed with coronavirus on the Gold Coast according to authorities – the only new case in the state.

The 41 year-old, who had recently returned from Africa, was tested locally while she was in mandatory quarantine.

It is believed she contracted the virus while outside of the country.

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said the woman had been in quarantine since she arrived home.

“She was infectious while she was on the plane, but of course all of the other people who were on the plane are also in quarantine,” Dr Young said.

“We will go and do some contact tracing on that plane just to check that everyone elses is in quarantine and whether or not they have got any symptoms.”

There are now currently five active cases in Queensland. 193 cases of the virus have been found on the Gold Coast since the beginning of the pandemic.

One person is currently being treated at the Gold Coast University Hospital for the virus.
