Gold Coast kids set to flock outdoors as coronavirus restrictions finally ease

Gold Coast playgrounds are set to reopen soon and parents and kids alike are ecstatic coronavirus restrictions are easing.

Why this crisis is better and worse than the Great Depression

PLAYGROUNDS and skate parks will be full of happy kids from next Saturday, May 16, as they reopen after being closed for nearly two months because of coronavirus restrictions.

Molendinar mum-of-four Lauren Paris said she was excited the ban on Gold Coast playparks was being lifted, but she hoped everyone would do the right thing and keep away if they were sick.

“After a few months of birthdays apart, in isolation, it will also be nice to spend time with loved ones and enjoy the great outdoors together once again,” she said.

‘DON’T PANIC, KIDS ARE OKAY’: GOLD COAST PRINCIPAL

“We’ve been passing our local parks every day, during our bike rides and jogs, and it has been hard to tell the kids they can’t stop there or touch the swings or go on the slides.

“We’ve managed to keep the kids amused at home and in the back yard, and online of course, but it’s really going to be awesome to be able to enjoy something so normal as visiting the local play parks again.”

Northern Gold Coaster Jodie O’Brien said her daughter Leia, 10, jumped for joy at the news and fist pumped the air.

“I asked why she was so happy and she said because home is boring and she won’t have to be stuck home with Jonah (her seven-year-old brother).”

Also reopening on May 16 will be Gold Coast libraries, public pools and lagoons such as the Broadwater Parklands. Restrictions will be lifted on outdoor gyms, but with a maximum of 10 people there at one time.
