QUEENSLAND has recorded no new local Covid-19 cases and one new overseas case, while chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young has warned “we’re all going to end up infected”.

The stark message came as Health Minister Yvette D’Ath and Dr Young gave an update on the coronavirus and urged the community to get vaccinated.

Dr Young indicated the vast majority of state residents would eventually become infected, but being vaccinated would greatly limit the rate of serious illness and death.

“We are all of us going to end up being infected with Covid, every single person in Queensland,” she said.

“But if you’ve been vaccinated it’s highly unlikely you will be sick, and definitely very unlikely that you will end up in hospital or the ICU.”

Ms D’Ath warned the virus would inevitably spread across the whole state once it’s reopened.

“This virus is coming, it’s coming to Queensland,” she said.

Queensland had two people with Covid enter the state, but their infections were not locally acquired and not of concern, according to Ms D’Ath.

They were an infected flight crew member and a Victorian truck driver, both described as of “no risk” to the community.

On Thursday, the state recorded no new coronavirus cases, either locally or overseas acquired, in what Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk dubbed a “double doughnut day”.

It comes after Ms Palaszczuk took to social media earlier this week calling on Queenslanders to help lift the state’s relatively low vaccination rates.

“I need you to get vaccinated and I need you to do it now,” she said.

“It takes five weeks from the first dose to be completely vaccinated.

“Five weeks from today is the 17th of November – that’s getting very close to Christmas.”

Ms Palaszczuk said the government had “done all we can to keep you safe”.

Ms D’Ath said on Friday that 71.35 per cent of eligible Queensland residents aged over 16 have had their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 54.77 per cent were fully vaccinated.
