Relatives of Elon Musk comment on ‘what he has become’ after alleged text message snub

Estranged relatives of Elon Musk have commented on “what he has become”, revealing an uncomfortable message the billionaire sent them.

Trump says Elon Musk is 'not taking the presidency'

A relative of Elon Musk has come out swinging against the richest man in the world, claiming he has dismissed his “poor” family members as he gallivants through the ranks of US politics.

Musk’s roots are undeniably tied to Liverpool, where his late grandmother, Cora Amelia Robinson, was born, but his recent interactions — or lack thereof — with his family in the UK have painted a picture of a man seemingly uninterested in reconnecting with his roots.

86-year-old Marshall Robinson, Musk’s cousin and a retired merchant seaman, revealed how little contact he’s had with the tech mogul this week.

“I have never been in touch,” Mr Robinson shared via the Daily Mail. “But one of the family did send him a social media message and he just said: ‘What do you want?’ That was it.”

Mr Robinson also commented on Musk’s chumming-up with President-elect Donald Trump, who has appointed the billionaire as one of the men to declutter the US government, as part of the DOGE (Department Of Government Efficiency).

“It’s pretty shocking with what he has become and how he’s linked to the President-elect Trump,” he said.

Musk’s detachment from his British relations is even more striking given the rich history of his family’s past.

Grandmother Cora, who grew up in working-class poverty in Liverpool, later moved to South Africa and raised a son, Errol Musk, who went on to have three children — Elon, Kimbal, and Tosca.

But despite this relatively close family connection, Elon has allegedly shown minimal interest in engaging with his kin living in modest conditions back in the UK.

Elon’s cousin, Shane Robinson found out about the Musk connection by chance while delving into her family tree.

“I don’t think Elon has snubbed the family but he hasn’t shown any interest in us from what I know,” Shane explained.

“I have thought about getting in touch with Elon but I decided not to — we’re his poor relations after all.”

Musk has gained attention in the UK for his political manoeuvres in recent times, including his vocal support for the UK Reform Party and a $100 million donation to its cause.

But Musk’s relatives remain realistic.

“We’re his poor relations,” Shane said.

Trump rules out potential Musk presidency

There are growing whispers questioning whether Musk could ever become US President.

But Donald Trump has answered that query with a resounding no, pointing to US rules about being born in the country.

“He’s not gonna be president, that I can tell you,” Trump told a Republican conference in Phoenix, Arizona.

“You know why he can’t be? He wasn’t born in this country,” Trump said of the Tesla and SpaceX boss, who was born in South Africa.

The US Constitution requires that a president be a natural-born US citizen. Trump was responding to criticism, particularly from the Democratic camp, portraying the tech billionaire and world’s richest person as “President Musk” for the outsized role he is playing in the incoming administration.

As per ceding the presidency to Musk, Trump also assured the crowd: “No, no that’s not happening.” The influence of Musk, who will serve as Trump’s “efficiency czar,” has become a focus point for Democratic attacks, with questions raised over how an unelected citizen can wield so much power.

And there is even growing anger among Republicans after Musk trashed a government funding proposal this week in a blizzard of posts — many of them wildly inaccurate — to his more than 200 million followers on his social media platform X.

Alongside Trump, Musk ultimately helped pressure Republicans to renege on a funding bill they had painstakingly agreed upon with Democrats, pushing the United States to the brink of budgetary paralysis that would have resulted in a government shutdown just days before Christmas.

Congress ultimately reached an agreement overnight Friday to Saturday, avoiding massive halts to government services.
