AI startup Astronomer has released a cheeky video featuring Coldplay frontman Chris Martin’s ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow who poked fun at its recent viral concert scandal involving former CEO Andy Byron and his secret HR lover Kristin Cabot.
Paltrow appeared as a “temporary” spokesperson for the company in a nearly minute-long video, thanking viewers for their recent interest while wryly sidestepping questions about how employees are handling the “kiss cam” frenzy that lit up social media.
“I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300 plus employees at Astronomer,” she said in the tongue-in-cheek video posted on the company’s LinkedIn.
“Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.”
Seconds later, “OMG! What the actual f” flashed across the screen before the video quickly cut back to the Hollywood star, who gushed that the New York-based firm is the “best place to run apache airflow.”
“We’ve been thrilled so many people have a newfound interest in data workflow automation,” the Academy Award winner teased.
The video then shifted to another question about how the firm’s social media team is handling the PR mess – only to be cut off mid-sentence once again with the Iron Man actress coyly deflecting to promote Astronomer’s “Beyond Analytics” conference in September.
“We will now be returning to what we do best, delivering game-changing results for our customers,” Paltrow said.
“Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.”
The witty clip was posted more than a week after Byron and Cabot – who have since resigned from their cushy positions – were caught cosying up to one another on a Coldplay “kiss cam” at a concert near Boston.
The two-timing couple’s office tryst was put on blast when the Gillette Stadium jumbotron suddenly panned to them – prompting the cuddling pair to frantically duck out of view as they scrambled to hide their faces.
“Oh, what?” a shocked and confused Martin said after catching the buzzworthy blunder.
“Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The snafu exploded on social media, made headlines, inspired memes, and quickly found itself the butt of many a joke, with famous figures and people across the globe recreating the mortifying moment at sporting events and online.
They were swiftly placed on leave after the viral fiasco, with the company launching a formal investigation into the alleged affair.
The tech tycoon – who is married with two children – was forced to resign over the weekend, while Cabot, the company’s chief people officer, also known as the head of HR, later stepped down.
Neither Byron nor Cabot, who is also married, have spoken out yet about the sordid scandal.
Pete DeJoy, Astronomer’s co-founder, has since stepped in as the company’s new interim CEO.
