Exclusive: Australia Post is looking to boost its workforce by recruiting up to 3000 seasonal casuals as it ramps up operations in the lead up to Christmas.

Each role will be critical during the very busy cyber sales period and the Christmas season.

Staff is needed in all states and territories, with the most demand in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

Australia Post is calling for forklift operators, van and truck drivers as well as freight handlers and parcel sorters to fill roles across the delivery network.

Australia Post executive general manager, People and Culture, Sue Davies, highlighted the critical role seasonal casuals play.

“Last year, we delivered almost 100 million parcels in the lead up to Christmas, thanks to the help of our seasonal casuals who worked alongside our existing team members,” she said.

“As we approach our busiest time of year, we’re looking to bolster our workforce to ensure we can meet increased demand and maintain the high level of service Australians expect from Australia Post.

“We’d love to hear from people who have a valid forklift or truck license, as well as people looking to work in parcel processing, deliveries and freight handling.”

Seasonal casual roles have an adult pay rate starting at $31.85 for processing (mail officer, parcel sorter) roles and up to $35.67 for our licenced roles (forklift, van and truck drivers). Some roles may also attract additional casual loading for overtime, evening, and weekend work.

With cost-of-living pressures and a shrinking job market, Ms Davies said casual work can help create new opportunities.

“Joining our team not only provides the opportunity to be a part of a supportive and dynamic environment but also allows you to earn extra money and to spread the merry this Christmas,” she said.

“Working in a seasonal casual role can also create opportunities to work with Australia Post beyond the end of the year. We have many team members who started as a seasonal casual and are still part of our team many years later.”

Australia’s unemployment rate currently sits at 4.1 per cent and banking giant Westpac expects it to rise to 4.5 per cent by the middle of next year.

Ms Davies said Australia Post was confident it would get the required workers despite the low unemployment rate.
