THE Chinese owner of the non-trading Palazzo Versace reportedly has instigated approaches to major hotel groups to determine if they might be interested in managing the 20-year-old hotel. The motive apparently is that the licence to use the Versace name expires later this year and it’s suggested it won’t be renewed if the hotel is not upgraded to today’s Versace standards. An insider suggests that exercise, along with the re-licensing fee, could cost the owner tens of millions of dollars.
