Special Report: Belararox has played a leading role in facilitating and concluding two significant Memoranda of Understanding between Australia’s Curtin University, the National University of Cuyo and the Government of Mendoza, Argentina.

  • Belararox facilitates significant MoUs between Curtin University, National University of Cuyo and government of Mendoza
  • MoUs establish framework for cooperation over initial five-year period to foster long-term academic, technical and institutional collaboration
  • This includes reciprocal academic exchange programs, joint research projects and developing new programs and opportunities

The first of its kind MoUs for Argentina establish a non-binding framework for cooperation over an initial five-year term to foster long-term academic, technical and institutional collaboration.

Key elements include reciprocal academic exchange programs for students, researchers and faculty; joint research projects in mining, engineering, and sustainability.

The MoUs also seek to develop continuing professional development (CPD) programs; student internship and placement opportunities; and the alignment of curriculum content and best practices in mining and resource education.

In addition, the agreements will seek to strengthen cultural and institutional ties between Argentina and Australia.

Lending support

Belararox (ASX:BRX) lent its assistance to making the MoUs possible following a request from Mendoza Governor Alfredo Cornejo in November 2024.

“It was a privilege to respond to the Governor’s request and help bring together Curtin University, UNCuyo and the Government of Mendoza,” managing director Arvind Misra said.

“These MoUs represent more than an academic exchange—they are a long-term investment in knowledge, people and regional prosperity. Belararox is proud to have played a leading role in advancing this strategic collaboration.”

Cornejo welcomed the international partnership and thanked Belararox for its commitment to the development of Mendoza.

“These agreements with Curtin and UNCuyo open the door to shared learning, innovation and stronger institutional ties that will benefit our students and the mining industry alike,” he added.

Curtin University School of Mines head Professor Mark Buntine reaffirmed Curtin’s commitment to global academic collaboration and to supporting education and sustainable mining practices across international borders.

“This partnership represents a unique opportunity to strengthen research, education and professional capacity in both regions,” he added.

“We look forward to building strong, lasting relationships that benefit our students, institutions and the broader mining community in Argentina and Australia.”

The company noted that the initiative was fully aligned with its corporate governance principles and ESG commitments, which prioritise ethical conduct, stakeholder engagement and sustainable development in regions where the company operates.

It has continued to demonstrate its commitment to contributing positively to local communities and fostering long-term bilateral cooperation between Argentina and Australia by supporting education and institutional strengthening in Mendoza.

Argentina project

BRX holds the highly prospective Toro, Malambo and Tambo (TMT) project in Argentina’s San Juan Province.

TMT sits in an unexplored area between the prolific El Indio and Maricunga metallogenic belts and is just a few kilometres south of the Filo Del Sol deposit that was bought by BHP and Lundin Mining for US$3bn last year.

Filo Del Sol, which sits on Argentina’s border with Chile, was recently confirmed as the largest greenfield copper discovery in the last 30 years, hosting 7.2 billion tonnes of ore at 0.40% copper, 0.23g/t gold, and 4.0g.t silver.

This bodes well for the company’s recent maiden drill program at TMT, which reached a target depth of 1300m at Tambo South and intersecting hundreds of metres of continuous copper sulphides and the top of the porphyry.
