STAR Entertainment Group is doubling down on its commitment to the Gold Coast by fast-tracking a $500 million fourth hotel and apartment tower at its Broadbeach gaming resort.
The 63-storey high-rise will climb to 215 metres — the tallest on site — and construction is pencilled in from next year, about 12 months earlier than proposed in its masterplan.
The surprise announcement comes despite Star CEO Matt Bekier having previously said progression of its $2 billion masterplan — which envisages seven towers in total — would depend on the competitive environment.

A Star source said the unveiling of the fast-tracked plan will add food for thought as State Government explores options for a rival global tourism hub gaming resort on the Gold Coast.
“It will challenge another operator to wonder ‘is there room here?’.”
Along with the new five-star hotel, the Bulletin can reveal Star also plans a new enhanced dining precinct connected to its existing original Star Grand hotel and casino floor.
The new “restaurant avenue” will have three new Asian restaurants, a steak and seafood grill plus designer sweet bar.

A 1500 square metre luxury day spa, Star Gold Coast’s first on-site mega nightclub operation and lagoon pools will also be part of the fast-tracked tower build.

Finally, a new elevated walkway across from Star Gold Coast towards Hooker Boulevard will enhance access to renowned Pacific Fair shopping mall.
It is likely construction of the new tower — to be operated at five-star level by a new international operator — will start at the same time the under-construction Dorsett starts to pierce the skyline. The five-star Dorsett hotel, which has more than 90 per cent of 400 apartments already sold, is scheduled for completion by 2022.

Star Entertainment Group CEO Matt Bekier said: “We are committed to the Gold Coast, committed to Queensland, committed to driving increased tourism and significant economic benefits for this state.
“Together with our partners, Chow Tai Fook and Far East Consortium, we are delivering a world-class global tourism and entertainment destination of which this region can be proud.
“This latest hotel tower will further progress the internationally competitive resort facilities we are offering to domestic and international tourists, along with restaurants, bars, a nightclub, a luxury day spa and wellness centre, and outdoor spaces that the local Gold Coast community as well as visitors can enjoy and frequent.
LUKA LESSON TO PERFORM AT NINETEEN THE STAR
“The Star Gold Coast will be the equal of the finest integrated resorts in the world and complement our $3.6 billion project at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane,” Mr Bekier said.
“Under the right conditions and circumstances, we will operate both properties in tandem as beacons for southeast Queensland, drawing interstate and international visitors to turbocharge the tourism industry.”
Mr Bekier said the tourism potential for the Star Gold Coast, while also providing amenities and attractions for locals to enjoy, was considerable and exciting.
“Even with the announcement of this latest planned hotel, there is considerably more on the drawing board for The Star Gold Coast,” he said.
The $2 billion-plus Star Gold Coast masterplan — greenlighted by the State Government late last year — would eventually have 3000 hotel and apartment rooms rivalling Marina Bay Sands.
