THE Star has a mega nightclub proposal in its Broadbeach masterplan with industry sources saying it would attract high-calibre acts — think Drake, Bruno Mars and Calvin Harris.
Star Entertainment Group’s long-term $2 billion investment vision for its Broadbeach island site involves a third tower — dubbed Tower 1 — scheduled for construction from August.

It is understood the fourth proposed high-rise on the site after Tower 1 includes concepts for a large nightclub which would rival the 1400-capacity nightclub at The Star’s Sydney operation. The Sydney nightclub, Marquee, is part of a network which includes one in Las Vegas and New York — operated by third party Tao Group.
Asked about potential for a large nightclub at its Broadbeach site, Star CEO Matt Bekier said: “If we proceed with a masterplan that would redefine tourism offerings on the Gold Coast, we would also look to establish a nightclub where the appearance of world-renowned musicians, DJs and celebrities would be a key attraction for locals and tourists alike.
THE STAR NOT RELYING ON POKIES
“While the masterplan would include significant expansion in food and beverage and retail, it also makes sense to plan for a truly world-class late night entertainment option,” he said.
“We want a definitive nightclub experience relevant to our guests and in keeping with the high-end experience we are offering.”
The Star launched rooftop restaurant and lounge bar Nineteen in its new suite hotel The Darling prior to the Commonwealth Games in April.
Mr Bekier added: “Nineteen which includes an ultra-lounge and restaurant, has been a wonderful success under (entertainment guru) Billy Cross and (restaurateur) Simon Gloftis.
“We are delighted with the stylish establishment they have developed with us.”
It is understood Star would seek to partner with a third party on any large nightclub operation.
