KEVIN Carmody – a two-decade veteran of the Gold Coast property scene – has died at the age of 65 after a short battle with cancer.

Mr Carmody, who headed up the Savills Gold Coast office for 20 years, passed away on January 4.

During the course of his career, spanning more than three decades, Mr Carmody negotiated numerous deals.

They included a large holding across the road from the Broadbeach State School for more than $10 million, the three-level Mawarra building in Surfers Paradise for in excess of $7 million, and the Star of the Sea site in the Southport CBD for $27 million.

Savills Gold Coast commercial manager Doug Garvie said Mr Carmody played an important role in the Gold Coast property sector.

“He sold some of the biggest significant sites on the Gold Coast over the last 20 or 30 years,” Mr Garvie said.

“He was unlike any other boss – he had a wealth of knowledge.”

Paul McLean, the former Wallaby great and ex-CEO of Savills, attended St Joseph’s Nudgee College in Brisbane with Mr Carmody.

“He was a very good sportsman in his younger days. He played a lot of rep rugby, a very good fullback and he was a good athlete at school,” he said. “When he came to live on the Gold Coast he was in his late 20s and an avid surfer.”

Mr McLean said Mr Carmody was “our Gold Coast man for 20-odd years”.

He is survived by his partner Helen Bell, daughter Kimberly and grandchildren Sunday and Daisy.

A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Clear Island Waters at 10.30am on January 12 followed by the wake from 1.30pm at Mermaid Beach Surf Club.
