A popular Gold Coast Chinese restaurant has announced it is closing its doors under tragic circumstances.

A POPULAR Gold Coast Chinese restaurant is closing its doors.

Kuan Yin Tea House, based in Southport, has announced on social media it will close later this month.

In an emotional post on Facebook, the cafe’s owner Thomas Lin reveal the Tea House, which specialises in vegetarian food, will close on November 23.

“With much regret and sadness, 23/11/2019 will be the last day for Kuan Yin Tea House,” he said.

“Because my wife’s health is not well, therefore we have to make this hard decision.

“Thank you so much for 7.5 years of business. It has been a great and unforgettable ride!!! We have enjoyed being part of your neighbourhood and we appreciate your business.”

It was revealed the tenancy will be closed for renovations and will be replaced by a new vegan restaurant set to open next month.

Kuan Yin opened in mid-2012.

Mr Lin was profiled in the Bulletin in 2015 when he discussed his cafe’s food.

“Most popular are sweet and sour ‘pork’ rice and the Thai spicy ‘chicken’,” he said..

“It’s not real meat, it’s made of tofu or soy.

“We have many customers who aren’t vegetarian and they say they can’t tell it’s not real.

“There aren’t too many different vegetarian restaurant at the Gold Coast but we try to make it easy for people.”
