MAJOR Glitter Strip players are eyeing up one of Broadbeach’s biggest nightclubs whose owner says is for sale “for the right price”.
Rumours are rife about buyers lining up to swoop on East nightclub which was a favourite of Pirates of the Caribbean cast and crew and has previously hosted rapper Snoop Dogg.
East owner James Tweddell, who started the popular venue nine years ago, said while it wasn’t formally advertised he would consider selling it.
“Of course it’s for sale. But people have to have the money and sign on the bottom line.
“Everything is for sale. The number one rule of business is never get emotionally attached to a business,” he said.
“Any businessman who wouldn’t sell for the right offer is not a businessman.”
Commenting on rumours he had been approached or was considering offers, he said: “I’ve been approached 20 times over the years. I’m always getting offers.”
Mr Tweddell said if any deal was done he would not miss the four-hour drive inland to his farm at Darling Downs which he said he did four times a week.
“I would not miss the commute but I would miss the party.”
Mr Tweddell said the venue had struggled like every business in Broadbeach during nine months of recent road works caused by the council’s $5 million street upgrade but now the venue was back doing a roaring trade, he said.
“The road works are all done. We just had a cracker Saturday night,” he said this week.
“Broadbeach has a lot of conferences coming up and the conference delegates love going out in Broadbeach.”
East targets a slightly older clientele than typical Glitter Strip nightclubs.
