THE iconic Pizza Hut restaurant on Kirra Beach has served its last slice.
After more than a decade serving customers from its base in the Kirra Beach Pavilion on Marine Parade, overlooking the world-famous Kirra Beach, the owners have closed the doors.
Franchisee Terfam Restaurants, headed by Simone and Michael Terrens, has called in the liquidators.
Terfam was incorporated on June 12, 2007 and traded the Pizza Hut franchise from the rented Pizza Hut outlet.
Director Simone Terrens told liquidators, Worrells, that the company’s insolvency is mainly due to “continued trading losses and a downturn in the industry and economy generally”.
The Pizza Hut at Kirra has collapsed with debts of around $236,000 to unsecured creditors.
The Tax Office is owed $59,000, according to its report as to affairs.
About $155,000 is owed to Pizza Hut franchisor, YUM Restaurants.
Almost 30 staff are owed around $37,000 in entitlements.
The total number of creditors to date is listed as 51.
The report said Terfam had $4000 in cash and $4000 in stock.
Liquidators Jason Bettles and Raj Khatri will hold a creditor’s meeting on August 11.
The Pizza Hut at Kirra was one of the few remaining dine-in Pizza Hut restaurants that offered a popular all-you-can eat buffet menu and use of discount shopper dockets.
Surfers, tourists and locals alike were attracted to the world-class location right on the beach which offered good value meals
One diner commented “Going there for “The Works” and a pig-out was a great treat when I was in high school”.
Reviews on Trip Adviser regularly rated the outlet as excellent, good value for families and raved about the location.
“Locations great (sic). Right on the beach … Foods easy to get and plenty on offer (sic). Certainly value for money.” one diner said
Another wrote “Right on the beach. Go on a quiet day & you might get a window seat for the lunchtime all you can eat for about $10”.
Family visitors from the UK said the outlet was great for children due to the exchange rate and Brisbane grandparents said the restaurant was “a must visit during our stay in Coolangatta”.
