ONE of the Gold Coast’s oldest pastry makers will close later this year in the wake of the owners deciding to sell the premises.
The Montmartre French Patisserie, which opened in 1985, has sold to a local investor for $700,000.
Co-owner Christine Raud said she and husband Olivier plan to close the pastry shop, which sells a range of baked goods including croissants, danish and scones, either at the end of August or after Christmas. Montmartre moved to the current location from Mermaid Beach in 2003.
She said it would be a “sad day” when they close the doors for the final time.

Ms Raud said they had decided to sell because they wanted to retire.
She said the kitchen equipment, including ovens, will be sold separate to the property.
Settlement of the contract is due on September 25.
Ray White Commercial Gold Coast’s Lachlan Marshall, who marketed the property with colleague Jared Johnson, said the original auction date was pulled to negotiate with one buyer.
However, that interested party pulled out of the deal and the property was relisted, eventually selling to a local investor with plans to find a tenant for the premises.
Mr Marshall said the campaign attracted 59 inquiries and seven offers to purchase.
“Due to the location on the corner of Spencer Rd and Lawrence Drive with M1 exposure it attracted a lot of interest,” he said.
“There is not much stock on the market in Nerang – it is very tightly held.”
Mr Marshall said the sale reflected a square metre rate of $2456.
Features of the Spencer Rd property, which is located in a three-unit complex, include 285sq m of space on the ground floor plus mezzanine, as well as cold rooms, warehouse and office.
Mr and Mrs Raud also ran a shop in Surfers Paradise, which they sold to new owners in 1990.
