Meet the Gold Coast’s property power players

Gold Coasters are obsessed with property. Meet the movers and shakers who influence the way we buy and sell real estate.

IF ever there was a perfect time for Gold Coast property players to prove their power in the industry, the past year has been it.

The market had a slow start to the year with stricter lending criteria and a looming federal election creating uncertainty that brought listings and sales to a halt.

But it gave real estate agents and property experts a chance to step up their game and stand out among the growing competition.

Michael Kollosche took that opportunity and ran with it.

He started the year with a small but fresh team and has built his self-titled agency into a mini-empire that is dominating the prestige market.

With a string of multimillion-dollar sales under his belt, many of which were penned within days or weeks of properties hitting the market, Mr Kollosche has cemented himself as a key player despite heading an independent agency.

Among the franchise networks, Ray White Surfers Paradise Group chief executive Andrew Bell and Harcourts Coastal director Dane Atherton remain predominant.

They have held strong through the tough times with a large portion of the market still in their hands.

Worth a mention is Harcourts Coastal agent Katrina Walsh, described as a “rock star” agent who is performing especially well in her niche of prestige and luxury properties across the Gold Coast and up to Tamborine Mountain.

Amir Mian and his team have worked hard to establish his self-titled agency as a prominent force in the city’s north.

They have racked up a number of seven-figure sales, including the highest on the Gold Coast so far this year, with $11 million for a house on Sovereign Islands.

Ivy Wu and Isaac Kim sealed the $11 million deal on a Sovereign Islands mega-mansion in September.

At the Coast’s heart, brothers Luke and Andrew Henderson are a force to be reckoned with.

The pair, who run John Henderson Professionals Mermaid Beach, were seemingly unfazed by the market slowdown, particularly when it came to auctions where they recorded consistently high clearance rates.

Power duo Sam Guo and Julia Kuo, of Ray White Broadbeach, have continued their goal kicking streak this year.

Not only have the pair kept listings and sales rolling without a hitch, Mr Guo also received several accolades, including Ray White Queensland’s number one sales performer award for the fifth year in a row.

Other key players include Ray White agents Jackson Paradise, who has sold several properties in a matter of weeks while his competition struggled, and Matt Gates, who has built a reputation as the go-to agent for prestige Sanctuary Cove residences.

Independent agent Alex Phillis, who secured the state’s priciest listing worth a whopping $45 million, is also worth a mention as is Shane Colquhoun, who has expanded the LJ Hooker franchise across the city.
