AN under fire resort operator claims he will be refunding all outstanding debts to Gold Coast businesses for failed staff Christmas parties ‘within two weeks’ — however angry partygoers say they have been waiting much longer.

Tallship Island Adventures general manager Jason Nicholls, who operates McLaren’s Landing day resort on South Stradbroke Island, said he will be refunding all cancelled bookings to the popular resort within a fortnight.

It comes as the Gold Coast Bulletin yesterday revealed local businesses had their staff parties ruined when partygoers were left stranded and unable to get to the resort.

“Without a shadow of a doubt it is all being paid,” Mr Nicholls said.

“We are going through the processes to ensure everyone gets their money back.

“In our terms and conditions we explain refunds will be made within 14 days. Everyone might be a little bit panicky but it is all being paid.”

However a number of businesses who had their parties cancelled by Mr Nicholls claim they have yet to receive their refund within the 14 days.

A Gold Coast business, which asked to remain anonymous, claim they are owed $1800 for a cancelled trip more than one month ago.

A company spokesman said they had not received any correspondence from Mr Nicholls or Tallship Island Adventures regarding a refund.

The Bulletin understands Mr Nicholls currently owes in excess of $20,000 in deposits for cancelled parties.

Currumbin Community Special School teacher Donna Naylor said her 30 staff are owed a total of $3000 after their end of year Christmas party was cancelled on Saturday, December 8.

“We had put money aside all year to have this Christmas party only to have it ruined,” Ms Naylor said.

“After the cancelled party we received an email from him (Nicholls) on the following Monday saying we will be refunded.

“Since then he has not returned our calls or replied to any of our emails.”
