THREE Gold Coast companies will benefit as the Federal Government turbocharges the manufacturing industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 crisis by tipping nearly $50 million into 220 projects across the country.

The companies – clothing designer Leina Broughton, Molendinar’s Chemistry House and Nerang’s Patterson Glass – will receive between $50,000 and $100,000 each to modernise their equipment.

Leina Broughton will use its $100,000 to implement fabric inspection technology and garment automatic cutting technology.

This will allow it to increase its output by 30 per cent and reduce waste by 15 per cent.

Industry Minister Karen Andrews said the money would help business amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“On the Gold Coast we’re renowned for our tourism industry but our city is much more diverse than we’re often given credit for and manufacturing is a vibrant part of our economy,” she said.

“As Industry Minister and as a Gold Coast MP I’m very aware of the manufacturing presence that exists in our city and I’m keen to see that flourish, particularly as we look to bounce back post-coronavirus.”

The Gold Coast companies are among 220 nationwide to benefit from nearly $50m in funding from the Government’s Manufacturing Modernisation Fund.

In Queensland, 543 jobs are expected to be created from a total of 40 projects.
