A COOLANGATTA building that hosted a renowned dance hall from the 1930s to the 1950s has attracted offers in the wake of a marketing campaign.
Known by its historic name of Jazz Land, in World War 11 it was popular with US soldiers who flocked to Coolangatta on their visits to Australia.

The two-level building sits on a 2355sq m parcel at 31 McLean St and plays host to an antique centre. The remainder of the site serves as a carpark.
The property has been placed on the market by Coolangatta Backpackers, linked to Gold Coast builder Allan Blenkins and Steven Cerruti.
The owners have lodged an application with the Tweed council for a mixed-use tower with 14,349sq m of floorspace.
The building features 54 one-bedroom and 54 two-bedroom units, lounge, gym and pool for residents, office space and 187 parking bays.
It is understood that the building’s timber dance floor will be incorporated into any new building on the site.
The property provides income of $70,000 a year and is for sale by negotiation through Kevin Carmody and Bill Ross, of Savills Gold Coast.
Mr Ross said it drew strong inquiry from Gold Coast, Queensland, interstate and Asian interest and proposals are under review.
“There is no other large development site in Coolangatta so it represents a rare opportunity,” he said.
“McLean St affords a good view corridor and an 18-level building is being talked about.”
