TEETH whitening entrepreneurs Alex Tomic and Nik Mirkovic continue to grow their empire with their third appearance on the annual list of the country’s richest young people.
The founders of Mermaid Beach based HiSmile are on the Australian Financial Review’s 2019 Young Rich List, coming in at No. 35 and No. 36 respectively with $93 million each.
The pair made their debut in 2017, coming in at No. 58 and No. 59 with $46 million.
The co-founders of tech company Atlassian, Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, took out the top spot for the eighth year in a row with a record breaking combined wealth of $26.714 billion.
YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS BACK GOLD COAST AS HUB FOR INNOVATION
Mr Mirkovic, 24 and Mr Tomic, 25 launched their business in December 2014 with $20,000 of their own money after seeing a gap in the market for teeth-whitening products.
The business exploded when the pair managed to get Kylie Jenner to pose using the product to more than 95 million followers on her Instagram account.
The pair continue to use influencer celebrities including Kim Kardashian and UFC fighter Conor McGregor to spruik their products via social media to a global online audience.
DOES HISMILE REALLY WORK? I DECIDED TO TEST IT OUT
“It’s given us the access to billions of people globally and it’s given us the right to access their attention in the palm of their hands,” Mr Tomic said.
But the pair, who met when they were 15, have no plans to leave the Gold Coast — crediting the city for fostering their business.

“The Gold Coast is an amazing place to live and the more people realise that, the more they will want to relocate and that will grow the talent pool,” Mr Mirkovic said.
“We want to show that from the Gold Coast you can create and build anything you want,” Mr Tomic added.
