Gold Coaster creates app to support local businesses

Love ordering from your favourite Gold Coast restaurant via a convenient app, but worry about businesses being slugged huge fees? This is the app for you.

Local businesses 'going down the gurgler' due to food delivery fees

WHEN business consultant Brad Legassick lost most of his work because of the coronavirus, he decided to create an app to help Gold Coast eateries.

The app is OrderLocally and it connects customers with restaurants and cafes in their area.

Mr Legassick has worked with hospitality businesses for 16 years and said he knew of the scepticism around third-party organisations.

“Everybody is very fearful of third-party vendors and the money they take away from transactions, so we have gone really low with our charge,” he said.

“The app was made to promote all the local cafes and restaurants and allow them an easy method to sell their product.

“We aren’t a multinational organisation, we’re local people creating something for the local industry.”

His design has been operating for just over a week, but Mr Legassick is already talking to other cities about introducing the app into their area.

Gemelli Italian is one of nine businesses that are already using the app and the Broadbeach restaurant’s owner James Carney said it hasn’t taken long to seen the benefits.

“It’s convenient not having the phone ringing all the time with people ordering through the app,” he said.

“Also, the commission is a lot better, unlike other services that take 35 per cent.

“It’s bang into the business’s pocket.”
