CONSTRUCTION of the $450 million Dorsett hotel tower at The Star Gold Coast is ahead of schedule in an unexpected side-effect of COVID-19.

Good weather and the lack of guests inside the Broadbeach complex meant work on the supertower had moved more swiftly than expected.

Star boss Geoff Hogg confirmed the tower, which will also include The Star Residences, was on track to open in 2022.

“Here at the Star we, like a lot of tourism businesses, have been impacted significantly by what has occurred,” he said.

“Back on the 23rd of March we had 95 per cent of our staff stood down.

“We are very pleased to have developed our COVID safe plan which is being considered and will allow us to progress to getting more of our staff back.”
