CONSTRUCTION of the Gold Coast’s next supertower is set to begin early next year, with new documents revealing this $1.4 billion complex will be taller than expected.
The second tower of the Ralan Group’s Ruby collection will be built on the corner of Ferny Ave and Norfolk Ave as part of a four-high-rise project.
Originally planned for 60-levels, the developer now says it wants to increase its height — by one level.
Ralan has filed new documents with the Gold Coast City Council to increase the height of the project to allow for a new level of offices to be built on the third storey.
The floor will contain ‘administration’ facilities for Ruby staff.
Construction of the new tower is expected to begin next year after the completion of Ruby stage 1 in November this year.
Construction was briefly affected by the 2018 Commonwealth Games and wet weather in late 2017.
The five-star hotel and residential tower, which is completely sold out, will feature 230 units and 13 ground-level villas.
Ultimately the third and fourth towers will be built, requiring the demolition of the Paradise Resort which sits on the site.

The ageing resort’s’ facilities will be relocated into the towers.
The entire four-tower integrated resort complex is expected to be completed by 2022
Ralan Group, headed by Sydney based developer William O’Dwyer, is also planning the $1 billion Sapphire project on a vacant site adjacent to the Ruby project.
