THE heart of the Surfers Paradise party precinct is to undergo a megabucks facelift with two new major projects in the pipeline.
A flashy new backpackers hostel is planned for a disused Orchid Ave site between the suburb’s police station and some of its most popular bar venues.

Victory Investment Development filed plans for a two-storey short-term accommodation venue for 168 guests.
It will replace a long-empty shopfront which has become rundown in recent years. Its features include a digital clock tower and a balcony communal area overlooking Orchid Ave.

Plans have also been lodged to revamp the shopfront on the corner of central Cavill and Orchid avenues. Centa Property Group starts construction in March with a November 2021 opening.
It comes after Hallmark Group renovated Melba’s nightclub into The Cavill Hotel and the Paradise Centre mall leaseholder committing to a beachfront renovation starting in March.
Area councillor Darren Taylor, who is developing a wide-reaching masterplan for Surfers Paradise said the new projects were a clear show of faith in the city as a place to invest and do business: “It is really exciting because while there has been a downturn, it shows there are huge opportunities to invest here.
“The Gold Coast is in a really good position and while backpacking during COVID is a challenge, the important thing is getting the pillars of the economy in place for the post-COVID period and now is the time for us to get ready.”
