Gold Coast development: New 10-storey tower planned for beachside location

This new Gold Coast tower is set to be built next to one of the world’s most famous beaches and close to one of our best surf breaks. But if you’re a young surfer, you won’t be allowed to live there.

A NEW Gold Coast tower is set to be built next to one of the world’s most famous beaches and close to one of our best surf breaks.

But it’s not for young surfers - it’s the next stage of a Bilinga retirement village.

Developer Aura has submitted plans for the second stage of its Pavilion 1 complex which will be built on land bordering Golden Four Drive and Pacific Parade.

The first stage of the project, approved by the council earlier this year, will have 10 storeys with 70 independent living units, a restaurant and a shop.

The project will go before council for approval next year.

It is the latest in a range of retirement age developments which have been approved by the Gold Coast City Council in the past two years.

More than $1 billion worth of projects are under construction or in the planning stages.

But rather than go into nursing homes, many are instead selling the family home and downsizing into spacious luxury units.

Data released last year showed that the over-65s market will be worth more than $3.5 billion to the city’s economy over the next five years.
