BUILDING a ‘tower of power’ in central Southport would draw in billions of dollars of stalled developments.
That’s the message from industry leaders and the project’s chief backer who say the proposed development would act as a catalyst would which also bring in new businesses to service the thousands of new workers.
TOWER OF POWER WOULD CUT STATE OFFICES
The Gold Coat Bulletin last week revealed Mayor Tom Tate was lobbying State Development Minister Cameron Dick to develop a joint-venture tower to house staff from both levels of government.
Mayor Tom Tate said the project would generate many benefits for existing traders as well as bring in new business
“Consolidating State and Federal agencies in a purpose built tower will stimulate the CBD, and provide the confidence needed for others to invest,” he said.
“It would be the magnet to draw in private office spaces and create that essential critical mass needed.”
Several major projects have already gained the tick from council including a preliminary approval for the Star of the Sea site and The AU, a gold tower put forward by ASF.

UDIA president Steve Harrison said consolidating government departments had already shown to have positive impacts on surrounding areas.
“If you see what happened at Bundall, having council there catalysed the area and there are now many businesses which operate that because council is there,” he said.
“There can be a real flow-on effect.”
