A GOLD Coast company is aiming to light up the camping and fishing world with its innovative glowing products.

Broadbeach-based Glo-X markets what it claims are “the most powerful glow lights in existence” that are powerful enough to light up an entire room and can be powered by natural sunlight.

The company, headed by former advertising executive David Meo, says the lights are effective for both indoor and outdoor use, including emergency lighting and signage, but it is really hoping to make inroads into the outdoor recreational sector. Mr Meo said the products, which range from illuminating paint through to fish attractors and lighting “sleeves”, use a “raw glow pigment” imported from Germany.

“Our products charge by themselves either by natural or powered light, providing a failsafe lighting solution and are guaranteed for low light or night visibility,” he said.

“Glo-X products can be used in a wide range of applications across industrial, military and residential sectors, yet it is the recreational sector that we are currently targeting with our latest range of products.

“We have developed a range of Glo-X products for recreational use in all kinds of popular leisure activities.”

The product range includes glow-in-the-dark markers, including for zip markets, and others, that are designed to help campers find their tent in the dark.

“A further innovation is the Glo-X LED Sleeve, which is made from UV polypropylene and simply slides over a standard LED or fluorescent light tube to automatically charge by natural or powered light and illuminate the room when the lights go out.

“We also offer a Glo-X Professional Night Paint, which is a high-quality solvent-based acrylic that is specifically designed to provide long-lasting safety illumination in power black outs or low light situations.”

Mr Meo came aboard the company, which has the Australian distribution rights to the products, one year ago after a successful stint in the advertising industry.

He said he saw an opportunity to transform the way the products were sold.

“They did not have the right packaging or retail marketing,” he said.

NEW ENTRANT IN CO-WORKING SPACE ON GOLD COAST

“It is a product that comes alive when it is dark. That is hard to get across in daylight hours in store.”

Mr Meo said to help rectify this barrier, the company is offering stores display racks that “light up” and show the customer how they work.

“We want to be in Mitre 10, Tackle World and camping grounds around Australia,” he said. “Our aim is to be involved with 1000 retailers in one year.”
