The company behind a music festival that promised to bring some of the world’s hottest acts to the Gold Coast, but was “postponed” at the last minute, is being wound up in court.

Organisers of the Lunar Electric festival “rescheduled” their Gold Coast event in February, two weeks before the opening act was due to hit the stage, after failing to secure a venue or some of its big-name performers.

Organisers had promised to bring global superstars – including Grammy-winning Doja Cat – to Doug Jennings Park on March 11, but ticketholders became concerned after no line-up was announced.

After the Gold Coast Bulletin reported the doubts over the festival, organisers told ticketholders the event would instead be held in September.

The posts said existing tickets would be valid for the rescheduled show, and that “refund options” would be available.

But no posts have been made to the festival’s social channels since and the Lunar Electric website has been taken down.

Festival contractor TFH Hire, which provides fencing, portable toilets and other infrastructure for events, this month applied for the company behind the festival, Intensive Events, to be wound up over an unpaid debt.

If the application is successful, tracking down the funds owed to ticketholders and other creditors will be left to liquidators.

Intensive Events is directed by Shaun Dunn, 46, and Simon Leigh, 59, who both have home addresses listed with ASIC on the Gold Coast and in Port Macquarie.

The Bulletin has contacted the directors for comment.

The festival’s website and social channels promoted Doja Cat alongside fellow US rappers 6ix9ine, NLE Choppa and Swae Lee, UK stars SwitchOTR and Russ Millions along with hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd and Jamaican singer Popcaan.

The festival organisers have been under siege on social media since artists and suppliers came forward saying they were still owed payments from last year’s festivals.

The festival’s Melbourne and Adelaide shows were cancelled last year, with ticket holders complaining they never received refunds.

While the Sydney and Gold Coast events went ahead in June, several artists have spoken out about unpaid fees – including The Veronicas, who said they were owed $100,000.
