Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show boss Johan Hasser has quit his post after more than 12 years.
Mr Hasser will finish up at Mulpha Events on Friday four months out from the next show.
He told the Bulletin he had no immediate plans but wanted to remain involved in the Gold Coast’s future.
“I decided it was time for a new challenge and I am working on some new opportunities,” he said.
“I’ve got nothing lined up but I am keen to be involved in shaping the future of the Gold Coast because it is going to be an exciting time leading up to the Olympics.”
Mr Hasser said he was proud of his time running the boat show, which saw it reach record numbers in 2024.
“I started here in the early years of the financial crisis and there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get through and I am very proud of turning it around and making it the success story it is today,” he said.
Mulpha head of hotels Patrick Lonergan paid tribute to Mr Hasser’s work.
“Johan has taken the Show to new heights, making it a key event in the marine industry worldwide,” he said.
“His contribution extends far beyond SCIBS, with the Events division growing significantly under his guidance.”
Mulpha has launched a recruitment drive to replace Mr Hasser, with senior events manager Corey Rattray-Wood taking over in the interim.
Mr Lonergan said the event was in safe hands.
“Corey has been a key part of our success and will ensure continuity as we prepare for an exciting year ahead,” he said.
