It won’t just be the water sparkling at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, with the glimmering glamour of superyachts and sportscars drawing well-heeled seafarers from across the globe.
Greeting the expected 45,000-strong crowd will be an armada of watercraft ranging from tiny tenders to vast vessels with eight-figure price tags.
Among the latter is the 2024 Horizon FD90 superyacht – the largest new vessel on display at the show – launching globally on the Gold Coast having only been delivered this month.
With a price tag of $18.6m – on special at the show for $17.6m – buyers will need a leviathan budget to sail away in it.
The yacht has five staterooms and separate crew quarters, a palatial master, designer kitchen and living areas and a full-beam skylounger with retractable moon roof, round jacuzzi, bar and teppanyaki plates.
Horizon managing director Mark Western said mining executives, construction company bosses and professional gamblers were among the prospective buyers of the craft.
“We anticipate it will be a good show this year, the lead-up to the show’s been very good for us,” he said.
“We’ve already taken six orders this year, which is one a month so we’re on record pace.
“We couldn’t have had a better build up to the show and we know we’ve got a couple of buyers coming to have a look.
“The two FD boats we have here are both available for immediate delivery, so we’re excited.
“It’s our home show, we’re based here at Sanctuary Cove, it’s just a good vibe, we’re looking forward to it.”
The show will also see the global launch of two new models from local manufacturing powerhouse Maritimo, which is unveiling all-new Black Editions of the M55 flybridge motor yacht and the M600 offshore flybridge motor yacht.
Maritimo operations director Philip Candler said there were already buyers in the wings.
“We’ve had fantastic interest globally, from Asia, the US, Asia and in Australia, so it’s a very popular model,” he said.
“Buyers are often business owners or business executives who are looking to have extended holidays away with their family on board the boat.
“Our hopes are that we continue with the great sales that we’ve been having over the last few years.”
Onshore, showgoers can ogle at land vessels from Bentley, Rolls Royce, BMW and McLaren, with the new Lagoon Beach Club VIP Experience set to bring the glitz, and champagne, for the first time this year.
The Southern Hemisphere’s largest boat show is at Sanctuary Cove from Thursday to Sunday.
