Harry Triguboff: The market is ‘king’

Billionaire developer Harry Triguboff has settled his purchase of a Surfers Paradise development site, currently home to a mini golf business, with property records revealing the price tag.

A Meriton group company paid $34.4m for the city block, at 3346 Gold Coast Hwy, that also previously housed the Vomitron ride.

Mr Triguboff, who signed the contract for the buy in July, plans to build 1000 apartments on the 8083 sqm holding, which is directly behind his new beachfront tower Ocean.

Mr Triguboff said drawings already had been commissioned for three towers with 200, 300 and 500 apartments in separate developments on the new site.

Meriton has already commenced work on Iconica, further north of the beachfront strip, which will have towers of 51 and 78 levels.

The company also has a mammoth 272m, 388-unit tower in the pipeline next to its existing Meriton Suites building in Broadbeach.

The site, which has frontages to Surfers Paradise Blvd and Ferny Ave, was bought from the Chinese-owned Aquis Hotel Investment Holdings.

It is the major part of a whole 1.05ha city block for which they paid Japan’s Orix group $36.5 million in 2016.
