Plans have been unveiled for an expansion of one of the southern Gold Coast’s longest-running businesses.
Bonbreak Holdings wants to build a second level on top of the Griffith Street building which is home to the Coolangatta Pie Shop, which has operated since 1964.
According to documents lodged with the Gold Coast City Council, the existing commercial building will be refurbished and extended with a second storey which will have offices, as well as shops.
The bakery will also be refurbished.
“The proposal will revitalise the site, providing a modest, attractive and contemporary built form outcome which supports the character aspirations relevant to the broader centre zone,” a report filed with council reads.
“The building will be visually pleasing and interesting, including a variety of materials and colours which coalesce into a vibrant, well-conceived arrangement.
“The inclusion of a food and drink outlet and shop at the ground level, coupled with the use of bi-fold doors facing towards each frontage, will ensure that the proposal promotes an activated street edge along both frontages and the laneway.
“The small, modest office tenancies proposed for the second floor provide for an efficient use of space that furthers the dense mix of land uses.”
Council has written back to Bonbreak asking for more information by late February.
