THE boss behind one of Gold Coast’s most prized venues says there are no plans for extensions despite rumours swirling of a possible new rooftop.
Burleigh Pavilion owner Ben May told the Bulletin scaffolding recently erected outside the seaside venue would allow for aesthetic work to take place.
“We were just asked to increase the height and cover some of the units up there as a request by residents in the new apartment buildings,” Mr May said.
Those living in the new towers along Goodwin Terrace contacted the team in hopes of making the roof top more appealing to the eye.
“There’s no new venue or expansions happening at the moment,” he said.
Plans to relaunch the site’s famed indoor pool are still underway, however, with a development application still under consideration by council.
The DA, lodged with Gold Coast City Council in 2020, centred on the pavilion’s ground level which initially outlined a 25m salt water pool with steam, sauna and cold baths.
Amended plans now show a mix of rehab pools, as well as a cold and hot pool on offer, while a pilates, fitness and cafe area sit nearby.
A spokesman for Mr May told the Bulletin in late 2019 that proposed plans would also mean a “small reconfiguration of Rick Shores with the addition of a pool open to the sea and a cafe and other facilities such as changing rooms and toilets,” he said.
As per Gold Coast City Council’s website the most recent action on the application required further information detailing the plans be provided to council.
When questioned why the application was taking so long, a council spokesperson said the applicant had requested an extension to provide further requested information.
“All development applications are assessed on their merit against appropriate City Plan requirements,” the spokesman said.
“City officers have requested the applicant to provide additional supporting information regarding matters such as operation of proposed uses to ensure the application is properly assessed.”
A decision is expected in early 2022 provided all outstanding criteria has been satisfied.
