A MELBOURNE buyer has purchased the former Swingin’ Safari site in Surfers Paradise for close to $5 million.
The contract for the 2945-2947 Surfers Paradise Blvd site, negotiated by Amir Mian, was signed last month and settles in 10 days. It was home to the famous Swingin’ Safari nightspot, a popular fixture of Gold Coast night-life that closed in 2014.
The seller was Auscont Holdings Pty Ltd, linked to Zhi Qing Wu, which bought the 916sq m block for $2.2 million in 2014.
The property came with approved plans for a tower with 96 serviced apartments and 43 units.
Mr Mian said the buyer plans to start work on building the approved tower “ASAP”.

“It’s not a big site but it is a manageable one,” he said.
“The market is prepared to embrace boutique buildings, particularly with serviced apartments.”
The property was sold to Auscont Holdings by veteran developer Chris Buist, who had acquired the property for $1.25 million in 2003.
The site, which is home to a Queenslander house, started as a holiday home in the 1950s and then became Queensland’s first wine bar in the 1970s under the name Bacchus Lounge.
