ONE of the largest cranes on the Gold Coast horizon has arrived for construction of a six-level podium forming an interconnected new Star Gold Coast dining precinct.
The 50-metre high crane’s arrival at the Broadbeach Island site marks a milestone in the $400 million build of the Dorsett hotel tower.
It will kickstart construction coming out of the ground following piling and earthworks since earlier this year.
The electric crane was brought in via 13 semi-trailers along with a further five semi-trailers with counterweights and a mobile crane required to erect it.

Star Entertainment Group, via a statement, said the crane would build the Dorsett’s six-level podium that connects with the existing Star Grand to create an integrated and expanded dining “Ave”.
The dining ‘Ave’ is planned to open with a steak and seafood grill house, a designer sweet bar, and three Asian-inspired restaurants including one with live seafood and private dining facilities.

The Dorsett and Star’s Broadbeach masterplan development is being driven by Destination Gold Coast Consortium, the name of the project’s joint venture between Star Entertainment and investor partners Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium
Destination Gold Coast Consortium project director Jaime Cali said the tower crane arrival signalled an exciting milestone, with the build of the six-level podium to be complete by April, 2020.
“A few months prior to that, a second tower crane will be erected and will be used to build the remaining 47 levels in the tower.”

Since November last year, Hutchinson Builders, has been doing demolition of existing facilities, some infrastructure works and piling activities for the lift core of the tower.
Star Gold Coast chief operating officer Jessica Mellor said about 40 people were working on the tower site right now but over the life of its construction it would involved up to 1800 jobs.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said “cranes in the sky means jobs on the ground”.
“Every crane that goes up across the Gold Coast is a reminder of how strong investment is in our city.
“Construction projects like this one not only provide jobs now but jobs for Gold Coasters well into the future.”
The Dorsett is scheduled to open in 2022 and will be the first Dorsett in Australia. Star’s $2 billion-plus State Government-approved masterplan for the site includes four more towers, each with hero pool features plus new dining and bar venues.
