BOATING businesses have found a way to stay afloat without arguably the country’s most prestigious boat show.
Over the weekend the Alexander Marine Australia invited guests and customers to two open days at the Southport Yacht Club, to cover the loss of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, which was postponed due to COVID-19.
Alexander Marine Australia dealer principal Todd Holzapfel said he was very happy with the turnout over the weekend from potential buyers keen to see what the European luxury boat manufacturer had on the market.
“With boating enthusiasts unable to see our latest yachts, we had to find a way to show what we have to offer,” he said.
“By appointment, one of our yacht consultants would take a group on a tour of the boats.”

On display were three of the company’s motor yachts, the Galeon 640 Fly, 510 Sky and 500 Fly.
Mr Holzapfel said when COVID-19 first struck Australia, he was concerned what the future held for luxury boats but said the last four weeks have seen a large increase in sales.
“Our target market hasn’t changed but with international travel off the cards, our clients are looking for ways to tap into the domestic travel market,” he said.
